” I love him because he is pure heart”

Ying, about her husband Hong

Ying and Hong are both from China, but actually met in the UK, when they were at university, on the same course. Such a bond this pair have they have both worked and lived together….not that anyone at the company where they work guessed they were a couple…they kept their relationship a such a secret the first many knew was when the two colleagues announced they were getting married!

It was Ying’s dream to play violin at her own wedding in an English castle, and it’s a dream that came true. The beautiful setting of Highcliffe Castle in Dorset was the setting for this fairytale wedding that Ying dreamed of…and her violin teacher, Terry, came along to play a specially chosen piece with her during the wedding breakfast. Alongside this beautiful hearttouching perfomance, they watched a beautiful animation about their love story and listened to funny and touching speeches. Ying was adamant that she would have wedding photographs on the beach……what might not be obvious from these pictures is that this was actually March….. in England… and when I arrived at the venue the hail was so bad we couldn’t actually get out of the car.

The weather however, like all good love stories, had a happy ending. From hail to rain, from rain to cloud, and from cloud to glorious sunshine…all on the one day. By the time Ying and Hong were pronounced husband and wife, the skies were blue and the sun was shining.

Ying and Hong, you are the sweetest couple, and I wish the sun shines in your lives together forever.

With a destination meeting, and an international courtship, it was only fitting that Mel & Rabin would choose an exotic location for their wedding. They met at the Monaco Grand Prix when Mel had gone to meet some mutual friends, and Rabin turned up early to join them. A few drinks later and they had a head start on getting to know each other. This soon blossomed into romance, and both growing up in Singapore meant the couple already had a lot in common.

Planning a wedding from afar wasn’t an easy task as Mel will attest….the culture in Sri Lanka is very different to the UK, and things tend to happen rather last minute….but I think you’ll agree it was all worthwhile in the end. The wedding took place at the Lighthouse Hotel on the South West Coast of Sri Lanka in the ancient Dutch outpost of Galle. The Jetwing Lighthouse Hotel hugs the coastline and stands atop a rugged stretch of rocks. It was designed by the famous Dutch architect Geoffrey Bawa, and is minimal, spacious, and grand in a modern way.

You can actually marry legally in Sri Lanka if you have a British passport, and you only need to be there for 4 days prior to your wedding. Personally I adore outdoor ceremonies (I had one myself last year), and the setting by the beach under a beautiful canopy of leaves and tropical flowers was an absolutely picture-perfect setting for Mel & Rabin to say their vows.

Mel had her heart set on an elephant and I absolutely loved seeing her perched upon the top in her dress! Add into the mix some Kandyan dancers and drummers, fresh coconuts for refreshment and a absolute feast of a banquet (laced with chillis! Chilli hiding in everything….)….and then in the evening some traditional Singaporean brandy toasts…..fireworks and a ton of dancefloor action, and you have one BIG party. The merriment was assisted by the Marryokes (‘marry-o-key’) team from Ireland who make wedding day pop videos with a lot of audience participation…. this was just hilarious to watch and a lot of fun for the guests. Almost as much fun as watching steam come from American Billy’s ears as ate his way through a mountain of food…. and tried to temper the heat by adding some of that ‘cooling’ coconut chutney….which turned out to be laced with extra chilli….

Another memorable moment was turning round in the midst of shooting the couple’s portraits on the beach and seeing my colleague Aneta out at sea with water up to her knees, but our beloved cameras held safe and dry…that tide sure did come in fast. Thanks for going that extra mile & keeping the kit dry whilst you got wet!

Palm trees, coconuts, fun guests, dancers, sunshine, great speeches, a meaningful ceremony……chatter, laughter, a feast of food, music and dancing, good friends and family….the recipe for a fine wedding.

To Mel & Rabin, congratulations & may you have a lifetime of happiness together….. xxx

Leoma and Gary – Wedding Photography at Combe House

December 6, 2012

Leoma & Gary clapped eyes on each other at a friends 30th Birthday party and then again with friends they they ended up dancing the night away together. Their first date was at the Russian State Circus.  Leoma was a student studying fashion media at the London College of Fashion and Gary was doing a graduate programme in the city.

The couple celebrated their marriage at the gorgeous Combe House Hotel in Devon…as the hotel was not just their reception venue, but also a hotel where their guest could stay for the weekend, the wedding has a weekend house party vibe to it, and meant they could kick off festivities with drinks and dinner the night before the wedding.

Leoma excelled herself in designing a beautiful wedding, with so many beautiful details from the stationary, to then flowers, and plenty to amuse the guests from the vintage bus to the church, to balloons, fireworks and a candlelit cheese supper in the stone flagged hall…… way too much to share here but here is a little taster of their day in pictures….

With great determination Gary tracked down a silver-blue open topped vintage Austin Healey for their wedding car, and the couple drove themselves away from the church. I love how it coordinates with their teal, ivory & pale blue colour scheme (for sure Leoma was behind that!)

Leoma so enjoyed planning and creating the visual design of her wedding, especially the flowers, and it was the beautiful blooms that actually inspired Leoma to finally pursue a lifelong dream in floristry. Soon after the wedding, she took an intensive course and started a new venture Harpers Bloom.

Here’s hoping both your marriage and business blossom beautifully Mr & Mrs Harper! xxx

Laura & Seb – Wedding Photography at Babington House

November 20, 2012

A beautiful English house party wedding held at Babington House, Somerset, England, by a couple in the film industry. The bride wanted a relaxed weekend of good food, good friends and fun partying. She wore a Valentino dress and Giuseppe Zanotti pumps, and they married in the chapel in the grounds of Babington House. Flowers by Passion created the informal flowers in soft pastels, and Linda Fripp the lovely cake. Big sharing platters of food at dinner relayed the convivial feeling, the groom’s super talented fellow band members rocked the dancefloor and the party went on long into the night….until 7am to be precise!

To Laura and Seb: may you continue to have a LOT of fun for many years to come. It was an absolute pleasure!
