This week allow yourself to be transported back to sunkissed Chianti in Tuscany, Italy. I had the privilege of visiting the enchanting Castelo di Meleto for a wedding last summer and captured the estate and surrounding area whilst I was there.

Set on a hill overlooking the Massellone Valley, the historic and elegant Castello Di Meleto is set in Chianti and has incredible views. It offers rooms and apartments with Tuscan-style furnishings, and a traditional semi restored original interior, which is wonderfully atmospheric. I love it when old interiors are not restored to within an inch of their life, and still hold some character and signs of age.

The best part? You can actually stay here without getting married! Yes, it is also a hotel, and has some gorgeous swimming pool areas with beautiful views, perfect for a summer holiday.

It truly is an authentic castle, and a taste of old Italy. As well as the stones and bib urns of flowers, it has those quintessential rows of poplar trees lining the roads and views of rolling hills and vineyards.

The wedding I shot here will soon be published on Martha Stewart Weddings. Keep your eyes open for lots of gorgeousness on their site very soon!

“Firstly we have not had a chance to thank you for the gorgeous package
you sent us and wrapped so beautifully.

What a lovely surprise to open when we got home and the photos are
just incredible. You are an amazing artist”

This is Nick & Xuca’s relaxed Ibiza wedding, held at a gorgeous Moroccan inspired villa overlooking the sea in Cala Carbo in the South West of Ibiza. Their spiritual ceremony took place on the clifftop high above the sea and opposite the mythical rock of Es Vedra in Ibiza (the third most magnetic place on Earth!). Nick is an architect with his own practice, Data Nature and has designed shops for Manolo Blahnik, and Xuca works in finance. The couple met in Ibiza at a lunch thrown by mutual friends, Nick proposed in Ibiza and naturally there was only one location that their hearts would allow them to hold their wedding!

Their beautiful baby girl Olympia was at the heart of their celebrations…. and Aman Cara, a private villa, set in the wild rocks and cliff tops above the sea, a spectacular and dramatic location. The bride wore Pucci, a mosaic tiled fountain in the villa’s garden inspired the stationary suite designed by the super talented Louise Richardson, and Eat Ibiza  served fresh Mediterranean salads, grilled prawns and more from the poolside BBQ. Naturally, being Ibiza, festivities continued into the small hours with a live bongo player and saxophonist playing whilst guests danced around the pool.

From the Bride… Although we both work long hours, planning our wedding was a fun and relaxed affair, with lovely trips to Ibiza and meeting amazing professionals who helped us design our perfect day. From Louise’s stunning invitations and stationary, to Vikki’s spectacular wedding planning and divine catering, to Polly’s gorgeous photos on real film that captured the mood of the day and the dramatic weather so beautifully, and ending with our saxophonist Laura who made the evening. Sharing the experience with our daughter Olympia and our families and friends was so special and I know every single person felt incredibly spoiled and charmed on the day, especially myself and Nick!

If you are getting married in Ibiza please do contact me to discuss your wedding plans.

Where do I start to tell the love story of Julie & Zak? I may only have met the couple for the first time the night before their wedding, but it was evident immediately on meeting them what a brilliant couple they make, and the strong connection they share. From the moment the night before cruise down the Seine began, to moment I left the couple dancing the night away, I don’t think Julie stopped smiling. Her happiness was infectious and a reflection of the great love and connection Julie & Zak share together. After a sweet first look….we strolled around Paris: a trip to the Eiffel Tower, a quick visit to the lovers lock bridge where they attracted a crowd of paparazzi, a stroll around the Louvre, ‘un petit cafe a deux’ to keep warm…. I mean really, could there be anywhere more quintessentially romantic for photographs of love?! It was so wonderfully elegant and atmospheric….

Julie & Zak met at work in Washington, and still work in the same office today, albeit thousands of miles away from their original meeting place. Their weekend celebrations kicked off with a sunset champagne cruise down the Seine. They gave beautiful little goodie bags to guests filled with gifts that reflected the the past, the present and the future – America, Paris & Jordan – a Eiffel tower soap handmade by Julie’s mother, heart shaped glasses, some city of love shower gel, American gum & lip balm, and Dead Sea products from their new home. Attached to these was a custom map of Paris showing the locations of their celebrations made by the bride’s brother’s girlfriend Kaitlin Manning and all presented in a pretty muslin bag. Julie told me it’s a tradition amongst their friends to see how late they can party the night before their wedding….and whilst I won’t be revealing what time they eventually made it to bed, let’s just say Julie & Zak are the current record holders……!

The couple have an incredibly busy schedule, which was made even more so by a move from Washington DC to the Middle East in the middle of the wedding planning. This brought some great benefits….. they went from being 6 hours behind to 1 hour ahead, and Julie’s work brought her through Paris – a great opportunity to get her beautiful Vera Wang dress tailored to fit, and to pick up some peacock-blue Louboutins. Julie & Zak truly were a wedding planner’s dream: they gave great direction but were flexible, and trusted Fete in France to create a beautiful wedding day for them and their guests. They were delighted with the results and enjoyed all of the details they created: Ladurée macaroons as favors, an accordionist playing classic French songs, and a lovely gold & pink decor, including gilded ferns and  gold glitter candles… Above all however, they enjoyed being surrounded by their precious family and friends on such a happy occasion.

In terms of photography, the couple took on board my advice to schedule their bride & groom portraits for during the afternoon to catch the best light. As the wedding took place in late November, it was a little chilly, but they strolled the streets of Paris, hand in hand, kissing, laughing and enjoying every moment. Once the portraits were done it was back in the warm, to sign the kettubah (which I had the huge of honour of doing as a witnesss, so thank you Zak & Julie for that beautiful gesture) and then for a heartfelt civil ceremony under a cream and gold canopy. From then on the celebrations began, and knowing this couple, I expect they went on long into the night!

Wishing you both all the very best for a bright and exciting future together…xxx

10 Great Things about Eloping

February 14, 2013

Polly Alexandre Wedding

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

Valentines Day is also the anniversary of my & my husband’s first ‘proper’ date so I thought I’d share a picture of us on our wedding day. I don’t think I’ll ever feel as love as I did that day…awww. I was SO happy!

Here’s what I loved about eloping to celebrate our love…..

1. Freedom

The great thing about an elopement is that you can make it as big a deal or as small as deal as you wish…you have the freedom to define your day. Make it as low key and spontaneous as you wish, or dream big and make it as decadent and lavish as you want.

2. It’s all about the Love

It’s all about the love and the two of you….no seating plans to worry about, no family politics, and no worry about everyone watching when you walk down the aisle.

3. Less Stress

It is less stressful that a big wedding (this doesn’t mean you avoid the stress entirely though!)

4. Creativity

The freedom to include whatever your heart desires in your ceremony, celebration and vows.

5. Intimacy

Our wedding felt very much about the two of us and the promise we were making to each other. About honoring our relationship and how far we had come together (all 7 years of it so far!) and where we planned to go in the future. A touch point in our lives together.

6. Budget

Now in theory it’s possible to spend less if there are no guests/just a few guests….but honestly I can’t say we actually managed this…. but absolutely it is possible. The harder part is that you have to leave things like flowers, decoration etc behind with you if it’s a destination elopement. Leaving my beautiful arrangements behind at the house was so hard!

We don’t regret a penny (dollar) we spent on the wedding, and although it was far from a budget affair we felt good about spending the money. It doesn’t matter what you spend as long as you feel good about spending it 🙂

7. It’s a Big Adventure!

We chose to roll our wedding and honeymoon into one big trip and make 3 weeks of it all….. it was an amazing experience and we did everything from going up in a 1940’s biplane together to doing a soul journey with a shaman, from shopping and drinking champagne like it was going out of fashion, to lazing by the pool and looking at spectacular scenery. We even saw elephant seals and dolphins. I’m a sucker for a dolphin; I just love them! I’m going to share some pictures from our honeymoon soon.

8. You can have an Intimate Ceremony and a Big Party afterwards

The best of both worlds. This is what we started out planning to do until time and finances meant planning two events in one year became unrealistic. Instead we plan to have a big party in the future, where we renew our vows and celebrate with friends and family. This way we didn’t compromise either event.

9. It’s Relaxed!

10. It’s Magical!
